Would this catch your eye?

(Roan spotted this in the supermarket.) What would you think of this… BEFORE taking Graphic Design I? What do you think of it now, as a graphic design student? Would it catch your eye? Would it stand out from the other sodas? Would you buy it? As a collector's item, or to drink?

  1. before Graphic Design I, if I saw this it would stand out and my first thought would be that maybe Mountain Dew had a contest and that this was the winner. Then it would make me wonder what the other contestants entered in. After I read the "throwback" part I would realize that it's not a contest winner after all.

Now, I think that this it still is design that will make Mountain Dew stand out from all of the other soft drinks because of all of the white space. With this surround by many different sodas using many different colors from the spectrum a person's eye might go straight to the white one. After awhile if Mountain Dew makes a very good profit and the other companies might try to do the same thing. Which would be a perfect moment for Mountain Dew to go back to their old packaging and stand out, again. I like the design, the limited color usage, the multiple of different typefaces along with their weights.

I would buy this to drink and then keep the box as a collector's item :)

  2. If I hadnt taken the class this probably would have looked really odd
to me. I think it would have reminded me of old white lightning
whiskey. The guy in the hat totally has an old moonshine jug.

Now as a designer I look at it as a definite improvement from that
latest logo they put out. that was just awful. I think I may buy a
case and if the cans different too I'll save a can. I probably would
have bought some just because it was different even before graphic
    design class.

  4. Before Graphic Design 1 the design would catch my attention based off the colors and how it is set up on the shelf. Also the name is well known.

Being a design student all the white space ass well as the typeface used for the name Mountain Dew really has contrast. Also to make it look more customer friendly they used a image of a man drinking. If it was Christmas time the design would workout even more. All the fonts work well together.

I would by a box it. Can't say I would keep the box or a can though.

  5. Before taking this class I wouldn't of paid no attention to this packaging. But now that I am in this class I'm noticing more and learning alot about graphic design. Such as the amount of white space on this packaging. The limited use of color. The tracking between letters. As for purchasing it, I wouldn't. I'm not a big soda person. And the "REAL sugar" is my reason for not purchasing it. But, It does catch my eye! That classic look is always an eye catcher because it's different from the modern packaging of today.

  6. Before talking GraphicD this would have called my attention by being so bright with the white. It would make me read why they made it different. Now taking Gd I can observe how the designer made it possible. For example the white space, different typefaces and nice color combination with a drawing with a smiling face to connect to the design.

  7. It called my attention as a collectors item before and now. It just seems so time warped. I wouldn't buy it to drink. The main color covering most of the design is white. The soda's color is green.

  8. i think it looks really simplistic it has only two colors it does stand out from the other brands. before this class probably i would have even notice it but know i see this use of limited color, the white space and the type of font. it quite better than the previous logo.
