Observing Stationery

Sample stationery by a French designer for a French writer/proofreader. Apply what you've learned in class about visual impact/contrast, color, bleed, font usage, type pairing, letterspacing (tracking/kerning), leading, keeping type away from the danger zone and within the "live area," etc… to your critique of this stationery package. Can you tell what size  the envelope might be (#9 or #10)?

  1. The envelope is a # 10 envelope. Which is a standard business envelope. Good use of contrast with the green & white. The envelopes business name and address are to close to the edge. There shouldn't be anything on the corner where the stamp goes. I would of incorporated the logo in more than one piece of this stationery package. I think the logo gives it a nice coporate look but should incorporate it on other pieces of stationery to tie it in better. On the business card, I think theres a good use of type pairing.

  2. I like the colors the company chose. It gives it a nice contrast. I don' really get why there are like two arrows on both sides of the card but it works okay. I like how the logo uses a J and G which are round and put them in a circle to make it stand out more. Never mind, I think the arrows mean to flip the card over. For the letter head I would've use some tpe of scrip or maybe even an old style. Over all it's a cool design minus a few negatives...

  4. I don't know if it's just me, but I really love this design. I saw it and the first words that shot out of my mouth were, "WOW COOL." I love the old school feeling of it. The colors are really nice and simple and provides a nice contrast between the green text, green body, and white open space. I don't know the exact term, but the emblem (?) is really nice looking. However, like Art said, I'm unsure if that circle on the top right hand corner of the letterhead is a placement area for the stamp, but if it's a symbol for the company, it shouldn't be there. Also, the type pairing for the business card in my opinion looks a little funny. The bottom subtext looks a little too close together while the name Jessica is very widely spaced in comparison.

  5. Overall, it's a nice and unified stationery set. I like how the type is not necessarily in black, but uses green instead. The green is tied in with the color of the back side of the letterhead. I recognize that the set could be printed on paper that is one sided tan and one sided green. If not then the business card would have a four edge bleed.

  6. In my opinion it looks sort of like a wedding invitation. the contrast in colors is nice, I like how the envelope is plane and white yet the letter inside is very colorful. I really like the the buisnes cards are all made up of text. I like this design, however dont think its too creative.

  7. The design is very clean and organized. It suits the client. Having the letterhead have a solid green color for one side of the paper makes the stationery bold. The business cards use more than 2 fonts, but I'm not sure if all of them look well together. Although, my eyes are drawn to the text and want to read it. The leading on the cards are tight. The solid green bleed on the backs of the business cards help unify the stationery set together. Like how some of the examples we saw in the university mailer sets. I also noticed the little floral ornament is seen on the logo and on the business cards.
