Came across this ad in the LA Times. It took up 2/3 of the bottom half of the page. And it caught my eye. Can you figure out why? How many graphic reasons can you name?
Contrast, Bold, Unique, Centered but it still works, not to many colors, nothing is to close to the edge, Bleed, not one thing over powers the other, & I know there is more but that is all I see off hand...
Art, you win! What a unique way of setting such a common word. Yes, the word SALE is what made me do a double-take as I flipped through the newspaper.
I consider this a successful ad because it made me, the reader, actually read what it was saying. Also notice the large 4 points downward toward the store name Banana Republic. Another observation: look at the 0 in 40. It's most likely an "o" instead of an actual zero. As a designer, you can take such liberties and replace characters to improve a layout's visual effect.
LOL... Good Times. I thought it was the word sale. I'll learn form it though. I tried to send you a few links a while back. Did you get them? One was for a easy website builder and the other was for some cool effects in PS.

ReplyDeleteAll your observations are right on. But I'll wait to see if anyone comments before I tell you what made me take a 2nd glance at this ad.
ReplyDeleteRight away the arrangement of the word "SALE" catches my eye!
