Observing 7UP

It's crazy how many times sodas get a new look. Do you remember any of these? Just goes to show how much money they have—reprinting soda cans, bottle labels, carrier boxes, trucks, vending machines, signage, not to mention corporate stationery, employee uniforms and other paraphernalia.

Here's even more redesigning! These two variations are for different countries. Can you guess which one is for the United States? For more interesting before-and-after comparisons of corporate and brand identity, click here to visit underconsideration.com. And click here to check out 7UP's bouncy website.

So which of 7UP's many logos appeals to you? Besides the way it tastes, could a soda's logo and packaging prompt a shopper to choose one soda over another? Leave a comment.

  1. The 7-up logo that looks more appealing to me is the first and the fourth one. The first one because it has a unique design, which makes it seem more appealing to the eyes. The fourth one because I remember seeing the design when I was younger and it is an original.

  2. The first 7-up logo appeals to me the most, because it looks like an illustrator designed it. I do think that a logo's appearance has a lot to do with whether the consumer or shopper buys the brand, because I bought somethings just for the fact I liked the logo.

  3. The 7-up logo which looks most appealing is the second and the third one. The second one looks appealing because it is simple, and unique. It's logo is still able to present its self in a neat and simple way to present itself to its viewers. The third one is also another one that I like because it has that "old-school" look to it, which brings back memories reminiscing the child-hood days.

  4. The designs with the least amount of stuff going on are my favorites. They are just simple designs that look good.

  8. I think people are creatures of habit and most marketing unfortunately is a waste. But to entice customers to something new the design is critical! Yes design has a BIG influence on shoppers!

  9. I remember seeing the 3rd logo way back when I was younger... I remember that little red guy with the sunglasses. It was all over the cans and bottles of the 7up and cherry 7up products. I think the package design of a product definitely has a lot to do with a person buying a product. I have purchased things just because I like the design and way it was packaged. I would have to say the one that appeals to me most is the 3rd one. It brings back memories. =]

  10. I like first logo which is in the white background. I think good design is simple. The design that I pick is the simplist one. I think good design of logo and packaging can promote consumption by attracting and appealing consumer's eyes. In addition, good logo can affect the brand image.

  11. Even though a soda taste so delicious, sometimes the design that comes with it wins me over when the logo is more in, more 3d and the color. Overall soda # 1 because it gets my complete attention with style.

  12. I don't have a particular design i like from 7up but i think the 5th picture is a little interesting cause i don't recall seeing the 7up logo looking like that. it's slightly different from it's other designs. people are a creature of habit. if they are familiar with the logo they will buy it. that's why sometimes I have seen off brand logos look very similar to the name brand.

I recognzie a few design my favorite especially with character with sunglass it's a classic I recall the plain one with red circle and the number seven.the frst picture makes me crave for the drink and the one with the character with the sun glass makes it more fun and appealing and it makes you want to buy the soda.

  14. I believe an appearance of a soda can does make a difference in having a customer buy the product. I've done tht before. I like the logo with the circle dude hanging from the letters. I think its so legit! I ddnt realize how many times the logo changed. It's facinating to me.

  15. the 7up logo has a good start but by adding so many effects or strokes to the letters, i actually like the first one better. where the up is inside the red dot. simple and unique
